i love pancake so much that i used to show off my cooking and photography experiment a few years ago about pancake. probably since i was overseas, i got affected with the breakfast they serve although uk is not the pancake heaven, if not mistaken :) once we got back, why bother with pancakes when you can get the best of malaysian here. hello nasi lemak, selamat pagi roti canai. oh pewitt soto, slurppp slurpp teh ais

anyway, once in a while i still wanted to have out of breakfast ordinary. not so long ago i've tasted one of the best serves of french toast at plan b. i even ordered it during lunch time once just because i couldn't find something appealing on the menu (that's only me i guess). i got frustrated when i knew they serve it until 6pm daily.

but what's up with french toast all of a sudden. aaqilah used to request for sticky bun french toast after watching it on tv. since i love french toast hence why not as it's quite easy to make. during my first attempt i only served with icing sugar.

getting better at becoming french toast master is the goal for now hehehehe

that caramelised banana, i made them myself. there's maple syrup and vanilla ice cream, next time i'll make sure we gonna have whip cream instead of ice cream. kids only attracted to ice cream, aiseh..

never thought that baking macarons can be very technical.

last year i went to a macarons class and was so overwhelming once i tasted the scrumptious and pretty looking macarons after the class finished. up until that time, the only macarons that i usually bought was from whisk empire as i rarely buy online. even aaqilah and natalia love macarons from whisk. i once bought from a kiosk in klcc and sadly, they're quite disappointing. i've tried once from a kiosk in metrojaya mid valley, and they're also not really satisfying although looked promising. so i thought, why it's such a big hit?

since i'm not a patissier and have not much experience with macarons, my opinions are solely based on my personal taste and what i think is good. to me, a perfect macarons should have this crispiness on a thin layer of skin but won't easily break when you have a bite. the softness inside the shell holds the sandwiched macarons but it's not soggy. surprisingly, a chocolate lover like myself prefers salted caramel filling macarons over chocolate ganache, but i think chocolate praline filling is one of the best i've ever tasted.

my first attempt with macarons was like a week or two after the class. based on my performance in the class, i was confident that it could work. nah, i was wrong and demotivated just after 1/3 of the process. my meringue wasn't consistent as it should have been, and as i suspected, most of them were flat and took so long to cook. i guessed i was clueless at how long it takes time to cook perfectly and the experiment was quite a disaster. but what i've started must be completed not matter what was the end result, hence sandwiched the shells with ganache fillings, and put them neatly in container. my spirit was lifted a bit as my sister told me it tasted quite good contrary to the looks.

so i had another go last 2 weeks. i prepared the raspberry jam filling the night before and went quite smooth. i thought ok, this is a good indication. the process went smoother, the meringue was quite a success with the extra help from sister, the part-time baker. even when i piped the macarons, they all looked good and i was quite confident that finally i've started to conquer my fear over previous attempt.


wait until they're in the oven when i've started seeing something went wrong. macarons are not like cakes so basically they're not supposed to rise during baking, that's what i thought to myself. pray hard, i really hoped that at least i could get enough for cake decoration.


oh my god, look at these. couldn't say that they're a failure but it's more to something that wasn't work out as expected. however, they're tasted as good as the cute ones, see the following ;)


what went wrong during the first round was basically due to my less experience with macarons. although i did performed well during the class, never forget that it was conducted by a very experienced chef and we were taught in the heart of a fine dining restaurant. the atmosphere, equipment, everything was in a right place.

hence, i had better prepared myself as i knew what should and should not do. i managed better in a more timely manner, and technical aspects were improved too. so why did most of macarons become fluffy was quizzical to me, but i think every techniques applied must be precise. i'll let you know once i have become better next time.

so, back to the test kitchen to achieve perfection!

Following my previous entry, the next day was another class which was a donut class. the chef is someone whom aja is quite familiar with, part of the chef bakery's team at bangi.

learning donuts is quite fun, but you gotta be ready for the long period of making the donut. fermentation proses itself took at least 2 hours, after that further kneading and flattening the dough. we learned more than 5 types of donuts that are possible as the end products. personally i like sardine donut more than i could expected ;)

dengan niat berjalan ke waterpark, tapi kita detour ke kuala kangsar dulu.

aku rasa o.h dah lama mengidam ni, dia kata the last time he had the wantanho was back in 1997. macam kuetiaw kungfu je aku tengok ;)

the first time aku merasa pau ni dalam 2 tahun lepas kut, lepas kiterang frust due to hal uk. umpama satu legend, memang sedap. lembut dan gebu, inti tak kedekut ye. ayam sedap, daging pon sedap, kaya buatan sendiri. itu jelah yang aku merasa..

nak mencari makan sedap kat ipoh takdelah sesenang yang disangka. aku pernah dengar pasal nasi ganja, pon cerita dari kawan-kawan o.h gak. aku ingatkan apalah kan, rupa ada macam nasi kandar, tapi dengarnya pembuatan special. sedap oo, portion is just right, kenyang sampai ke malam.

A belated entry from aaqilah's birthday last.. month hahah!!

Aku tidur pukul 4 pagi, and it's totally worth the next morning's doziness and dizziness. Baked nearly 140s red velvet cupcakes which I topped with vanilla buttercream. Maklumlah budak-budak tak semua sukakan cheese cream, and mentioning about cheese cream I think I could come up with a good entry of cupcakes frosting ;)

So, from the bottom of maa's heart, I wished you dear happy birthday (this is past hasniza ok), loves u much, dan doa yang terbaik dan terindah untuk aaqilah.. amin =)



Sebelah petangnya lepas balik sekolah, other half belikan aaqilah kek aiskrim. mujur strawberi tadelah aku bitter sangat. aku tade time tu, tak sempat nak kejar ke shah alam. oh i was stucked in a meeting..

Oklah, entri ni macam iklan pulak.

rasa macam lama je entri takde gambar. apalagi aku takde kamera, sedih pulak rasanya. seriously, gambar yang datang dari aku mostly from iphone atau nikon compact kamera belongs to adik aku. sob sob.. kiterang memang macam takde semangat. nevertheless, passion aku terhadap foodtography or sebenanya food photography tetap ada. especially bila browse blogs dengan gambar yang super canteks, rasa bersemangat gitu.. terus rasa nak pergi beli hahaha (tapi duit tade)

sabtu yang lepas, alhamdulillah kenduri doa selamat/aqiqah dapat dilaksanakan dalam suasana yang kecil dan meriah. terima kasih pada kawan-kawan yang sudi drive sampai nun semenyih di sana. dan tak lupa juga saguhati untuk natalia, on behalf of natalia aku nak ucapkan many thanks for that. menu yang ala-ala kampung dan semuanya bukan dimasak sendiri hihi. ops, chocolate cake adalah sponsor dari cupsters of course.

pengalaman pertama saya bisnes kuih raya

alhamdulillah agak encouraging dengan 2 jenis kuih raya dan sebiji kek. tersengih-sengih sampai ke telinga para pekerja semua selepas mendapat gaji. mrs presiden dan miss v.p senyum biasa je, dengan quote, "kalau kite berdua je buat mesti kaya gila" hahaha para pekerja jangan terasa ok, next year kita buat lagi with additional kuih

extra note untuk forward ke tahun depan. kena lebih sistematik dan managable. ni terutama untuk kes modal yang sedap keluar je. bakal ada ahli kongsi lelap setelah tengok hasil dari tahun ni. kita kena juga giat memulakan seawal puasa. last minit, aiseh sangat penat.

sebagai konklusi, tiring but very exciting. semangat entepreneur yang umpama tidur sudah dikejutkan.

dearest all, many thanks for your orders and supports. tempahan kuih dan kek adalah untuk sepanjang tahun, suitable for all occasions.

buffet, very tempting akan tetapi stick to reality lah.

merasa jugak aku nak berbuka kat luar tahun ni. last year i was left behind due to my confinement period. time tu o.h pergi gathering kat jm bariani in ttdi area, sesat without a hp. duk ulang alik giant call orang, tapi only managed to reach after 9. gathering berbuka dah jadi supper kat kedai mamak plak.

sabtu, aku suggested jm bariani, ni semua pasal o.h jugak yang bercerita ada kawan kiterang cerita kat dia jm beriani rm30 kat bangi. terasa nak berbariani pulak. since kiterang dari hukm, so dia kata pj area is better option. aman damai, kau boleh walk in hatta sudah pukul 7. takde orang sangat maa, kiterang dapat meja sikit punya besar. buffet for him, ala carte for me sebab aku nak ayam goreng rempah dan wajib teh 3 layer. buffetnya is rm25, tapi ialah dia pon tak banyak option sangat. teh tarik dia sedap =) dapatlah ku menumpang satu gelas. o.h menyatakan yang dia sendiri sudah tidak mampu berbuffet lagi. kalau dulu-dulu boleh habis kambing 2-3 pinggan, aku rasa sekarang dia makan 2-3 ketul pon dah berpeluh-peluh. huh, kalau blackout kan saja je cari nahas.

semalam aku kasi can dia pilih, aku kata aku ikut je la. dia kata jomlah italiannies pulak. nasib baik ada meja kosong lagi, kes walk in pukul 7 juga. hehe afdlin shauki pon ada ye. dia lalu je, semua orang pandang dan bisik-bisik including us too. sebab utama aku bersetuju ialah teringatkan airnya yang bottomless. haus gila. memang 5 kali aku refilled. ada buffet juga, tak silap rm42. o.h surrendered, dia kata tak larat. lagipon mungkin main course yang kurang hmph pada dia. aku pulak sikit lagi nak amek semata-mata nak kek. tapi ingatkan diri sendiri yang aku mesti akan struggle nak habiskan punya. jangan ikut perut yang lapar dan nafsu makan semata ok.

aku sendiri pon rasa orang cam aku ni rugi je makan buffet. kalaulah o.h tau yang aku cuma larat habeskan chicken wing je waktu zaman buffet mcd dulu. tak berbaloi huhu

last friday's night, i had the opportunity to accompany o.h to um's dinner occasion. he received an award for his phd from raja muda perak, as he managed to finish in less than four years.

i managed to catch a glimpse of sultan perak and raja muda perak. very tall, very fair ;)

food wise, it's not something that i am into and i wasn't being offensive here. it's a chinese style dinner, they served the lauk first and finally the nasi goreng arrived. let's put aside the chinese style cooking, the taste wasn't at the level as i hoped. dalam simple bahasa melayu, tak bes sangat la.. i drank less as it's tea on the menu, okla you can actually ask for plain water. except for wedding receptions, it seems like whenever i went for official dinner at hotel it's chinese dinner that they normally serve.



Chinese style soup, the sticky consistency but tastes quite nice to my surprise. 

hope that we could be back next year and many more years to come. if that the case, then i can come up with the II, III and beyond =)

the top recipient of the night bagged himself up to 30k ++. phew..

eaterie: restoran terapung, bagan lalang

jumaat malam minggu lepas adalah trip yang tidak disangka ke bagan lalang. nak carik kedai seafood bes, itulah plannya. aku pulak kebetulan ada kat semenyih, macam bulan jatuh ke riba la. rezeki puasa ganti.

aku ada dengar macam-macam review pasal bagan lalang, ada kata sedap, ada pulak on the contrary. pendek kata tepuk dada tanya selera. ada orang kata kedai yang di sana, ada pulak yang tu. mostly tak cakap kedai mana, jadi rezeki kaulah kalau dapat tempat yang sedap. jadi taktik biasa ialah tengok kat mana semut hurung. ramai orang tu insyaAllah sedap. dapat pulak tempat cantik, agaknya sought after nih.

since gerak dari semenyih je dah past 8.30, sampai sana nearly 10. eh, seriously macam lambat kan, tapi pengunjung tetap come and go macam kiterang. keluar kereta je angin sikit punya kuat, takde sepoi-sepoi bahasa. langsung tak sopan. ok, aku ingatkan sebab kita memang betul-betul tepi laut, which is memang betul-betul tepi laut. angin dan diikuti titis-titis hujan. cepat-cepat berlari masuk kedai, dan terus berdiri once we spot an empty table. rupanya ribut mengganas laa..

takdelah makan dalam hujan, tapi lambat sikitlah proses amik ordernya. personally aku rasa boleh datang lagi =)

hari ni aku mengganti puasa, dalam usaha untuk mengganti puasa secara extreme iaitu 19 hari non-stop. kalau larat la kan, kalau less extreme mungkin 5-5-5-4, atau 4-4-4-4-3, kita tengok formation mana yang akan prevail.

back to entry's title, hari ni maa aaqilah and natalia sangat malas untuk masak beria. dari budak-budak ni bangun aku dah kasi makan cereal dan calciyum, tapi perut yang lapar tetap perut yang lapar. tiba-tiba aku teringatkan mac and cheese, tapi apa yang aku boleh come up dengan macaroni dan hanya cheese spread without ayam, daging dan sebagainya. come on, think fast!


menurut aaqilah, sedap (bangga i gitu hehehe) tapi dia sukalah gamaknya. natalia? dia telan saja. sangat cepat dan senang, seriously. 

ingredients: macaroni, cheese spread, sprinkles of oregano, salt and pepper
preparation time: less than 15 mins pon boleh siap

rebus macaroni as instructed, aku suka letak a clove of garlic (ketuk-ketuk je), sikit garam dan minyak zaitun dalam air tadi. dah masak, toskan dan prepare dalam bekas. garam, oregano, cheese spread dan pepper ikut sukati dan gaul sebati. buon appetito =D


p/s: sebenarnya kan, aku sendiri tak merasa lagi camne, mengikut kata-kata mereka not bad haha.. ada bunyi sedikit perasan di situ ;)

a simple birthday dinner to cater 3 and half people. natalia takdelah makan sangat, mana boleh belasah semua. aaqilah berjaya menghabiskan (or nearly habis) nasi, ayam dan cupcakenya sebab nak buka present punya pasal. berjaya menahan dia bukak since sunday night. macam-macam alasan bagi dah huhu

walaupun simple, tapi pagi ni aku bangun dengan sakit-sakit badan. apesal la flat semacam?. ini belum nak buat party lagi ni, kalau camni camne nak masak besa punya? order katering laa jawabnya hahaha

ok, as i promised in my previous entri. my experience with chocolate ganache. aku pernah try tapi tak pernah piping due to it's consistency. kali ni aku cuba resepi lain, dan sejukkan dulu. messy, buttercream lagi senang rasanya. however, walaupun texturenya yang kurang menyakinkan bila piping, it stays accordingly. dan sedap! kurang muak as compared to buttercream.

practice makes perfect. next time saya cuba lagi. selamat maju jaya!!

dah banyak kali sangat aku delay, sebenanya nak ajak korang menjamu mata hehehe nak menjamu selera pon bole jugak.

opportuniti ke perlis (cousin's wedding), jadi kiterang mengambil kesempatan singgah kat penang sat. on the way balik ada pit stop makan kat juru, warung pak su mee ketam. being told by lotsa people that this is a must, yeah this eatery is very strongly recommended. price wise, aku rasa not bad. ada 5 adult, dan 1 kid.3 nasi goreng ketam, 1 mee ketam, 1 kuetiaw ketam. tambah lagi 3 keping ikan pari bakar, takut laa man-man je kan. tapi tekejut melihatkan himpunan ketam yang maha dasyat.limpahan dan pesta!!

so far aku dah try kat 3 kedai, yang kat atas ni aku minum kat restoran hajris bistro, or more popular as rhb (menurut kawan aku) yang terletak di bandar tasik permaisuri. orang cheras, i envy u sebab ada 2 tempat best, satu lagi original kayu nasi kandar yang menurut another good friend of mine nasi kandaqnya memang masyuk. okeh, next time aku try la nasi kandar pulak.
